Scream 6 Confirmed Release Date, Trailer & Everything We Know in 2022!

Ghostface will return to the big screen in March 2023 for Scream 6, and filming could begin as soon as now. Following the box office success of this year’s spectacular sequel Scream, it was announced in February 2022 that the same creative team would return to make a new Scream film.

The narrative was co-written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick and directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein, and William Sherak are producing, and Kevin Williamson, the creator of Scream, serves as executive producer.

In the sixth instalment, a new Ghostface was unleashed onto a group of innocent children, with the original trio of Sidney, Dewey, and Gale attempting to save them all. It was a stand-alone story, but that does not exclude it from having a big impact on the sequel.

Date of Publication of Scream 6

According to Deadline, Scream 6 will be released in theatres on March 31, 2023, and will be filmed in the summer of 2022.

Longtime fans may recall that “Scream 2” was pushed into production after the release of the first film, with the first film debuting in December 1996 and the sequel in December 1997. (via IMDb).

Utilizing the momentum of a hit slasher film offers numerous benefits. Although “Scream 2” failed to impress moviegoers as much as its predecessor, critics were better informed about what they were seeing and what to expect in the wake of the original’s creative approach to the slasher genre.

The sequel has the highest approval rating in the “Scream” franchise, with an 81 percent Rotten Tomatoes rating. The use of various “Scream” legacy characters is undoubtedly a significant factor in the new sequel’s appeal to original fans.

While “Scream” 2022 adheres to the basic idea, it also introduces a large number of new characters (both masked and unmasked), leaving many to question how many of these survivors will return for the sequel.

Casting for Film Six

The most recent instalment in the Scream series was something of a reboot. While the original actors returned, a new cast of characters was introduced to take the story further. The original group was still essential to the plot of Scream, but we can foresee their importance diminishing as the franchise proceeds.

We currently know that Courtney Cox will reprise her role as famed reporter Gale Weathers. Neve Campbell, the original scream queen, has not yet confirmed her participation, but we expect her to be there. Campbell was asked to return in February 2022, but she requested to first review the screenplay.

Hayden Panettiere, who previously portrayed Kirby Reed in Scream 4, is slated to reprise his role. While it appeared she may not have survived at the conclusion of Scream 4, her fate was confirmed ten years later in Scream. This will be her first role in a feature picture in eight years. The most recent survivors, Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, and Jenna Ortega, will join her.

Scream 6 Plot

Everything regarding Scream 6 is currently a guess. Scream’s conclusion lacked a proper setup, but this has never been the case in this series.

According to a Fandom interview with Bettinelli-Olpin, it seems unlikely that Sidney and Gale will take a second seat to the other cast members. He remarked, “We consider it more now that we have a larger family.” Whatever is suitable for the next generation is also suitable for us.”

“We’d be delighted to work with Courteney and Neve again. That was a great experience, and they were simply incredible throughout.”

Given Sam’s familial connection to the original Scream, we are confident we will see a great deal more of Sam and Tara Carpenter.

As is traditional, there will be some meta-comedy based on modern horror tropes. Among the targets of the fifth film were “Requels,” “Obsessive Fandoms,” and “Elevated Terror.” Where then does Scream 6 fit? Perhaps “requel sequels,” however they’ll need to come up with a catchier moniker.
