Seismic crisis in the volcano

A short, low-intensity seismic crisis was recorded under the Piton de la Fournaise summit on November 17 from 6:12 pm to 6:26 pm. A total of 42 shallow volcanic-tectonic earthquakes were recorded below the northern edge of the Ptolemaic Gorge during this crisis.

No rapid erosion of the ground surface was recorded during this crisis, i.e. the magma did not leave the shallow magmatic reservoir.

This seismic crisis shows that the shallow magmatic reservoir is under constant pressure. Following the October 18 intrusion, inflation in the building resumed. This inflation has continued ever since, testifying to the filling of the latter by deep magma.

Keep in mind that this stressful process can last from several days to several weeks.

Alert status: Vigilance
