Shamima Begum (born 25 August 1999) is a British-born lady who entered Syria at the age of 15 to join the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

She was a pupil at London’s Bethnal Green Academy when she and two classmates, known as the Bethnal Green trio, travelled to Syria in February 2015. Begum married a fellow ISIL member 10 days after arriving and had three children, all of whom perished while they were young.

She earned a reputation among ISIL members as an enforcer and was in charge of recruiting new recruits.

Many people are familiar with her due to extensive media attention and wish to learn more about her personal life. People are drawn to this woman because she is young and has been abandoned by her citizenship.

Who Are Shamima Begum’s Parents?

Ahmed Ali is her father’s name, while Shahnaz Begum is her mother’s. They are originally from Bangladesh, where they also had citizenship.

They later immigrated to England and practised Islam, thus Shamima was raised with the same ideals. Similarly, she grew up in Tower Hamlets’ Bethnal Green neighbourhood in East London.

Her parents enrolled her in secondary school at Bethnal Green Academy for academic reasons. But she was exclusive with her family until she was 15 when she moved to Syria.
