Hardwick was born on January 9, 1974 in Savannah, Georgia. Joyce Hardwick and Clifford III Hardwick are his parents. His father practised law. His childhood home was in Decatur, Georgia, and he attended Brookhaven High School and Marist School in Brookhaven.

After graduating from Marist School, he attended Georgia University on a football scholarship. At the time, football was Hardwick’s primary interest, but he also continued to write poetry and became more involved in theatre, which he had minored in.

Two years of firefighter and paramedic training prepared Hardwick for his role in the medical drama “Saved.” He appeared in a total of 13 episodes.
