Paul Simon is a renowned American musician and composer whose career has spanned decades and been a critical and commercial success. Simon has had success both as a solo artist and as a member of the duet Simon & Garfunkel, which he founded with Art Garfunkel.
The sale includes 100 percent of Simon’s rights as a songwriter and publisher, so Sony will receive all future royalties. The sale contained over 400 tracks, including singles recorded while he was a part of Simon & Garfunkel.
Paul met his future bandmate Art Garfunkel while playing in a sixth-grade rendition of “Alice in Wonderland” together at Fairfax High School. Soon thereafter, they began performing at school dances.
While Simon was playing and creating solo work during his college years, he and Art continued to perform together and got a contract with Columbia Records in 1964. They also changed their name from Tom & Jerry to Simon & Garfunkel.
In 2012, around $16 million was spent on the acquisition of a 32-acre site in New Canaan, Connecticut. In April 2019, he listed the home for sale at $14 million. The property has an 8,500 square foot main residence and expansive grounds.
