Netflix released a teaser for the Japanese action film Bullet Train Explosion, scheduled for release on the platform in April.
Directed by Shinji Higuchi of Shin Godzilla fame, the film is a remake of the 1975 classic The Bullet Train, which served as one of the initial inspirations for the cult film Speed starring Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock.
The idea of Bullet Train Explosion is not significantly dissimilar to that of Speed, which occurs on a bus circulating around Los Angeles. If it ceases, the explosive installed onboard will detonate.
The forthcoming film depicts a perilous situation where the safety of the crew and passengers on the Hayabusa 60 shinkansen en route to Tokyo is jeopardized by a bomb that will detonate instantly if the train’s speed decreases below 100 km/h.
The bomber is demanding a ransom of ¥100 billion for the lives of all those on board, necessitating collaboration between the train crew and the authorities to neutralize the bomb and identify the perpetrator.
“Ensuring the safe arrival of our passengers is our primary objective,” asserts train conductor Kazuya Takaichi (Tsuyoshi Kusanagi) in the initial trailer for the film, which is available for viewing at the beginning of this article.
Train driver Chika Matsumoto (Non) pledges to “never stop,” while the government’s goals appear to conflict with those of the train personnel.
Passengers with diverse backgrounds aboard the shinkansen include House of Representatives member Kagami (Machiko Ono), YouTuber Todoroki (Jun Kaname), and student Yuzuki Onodera (Hana Toyoshima).
Simultaneously, Takumi Saitoh portrays Kasagi, the commanding commander of the Shinkansen General Operation Control Center, who supervises the rescue operations from a distance.
Bullet Train Explosion will be released on Netflix on April 23.
