Dua Lipa She faces a second copyright lawsuit over her song Levitating, less than a week after reggae band in Florida. File a lawsuit against the singer for alleged plagiarism, Billboard Reports.

Songwriters L Russell Brown and Sandy Linzer claim that the opening melody for the single, the 10th longest-running song ever by a female artist on the US Billboard Hot 100, is a “duplicate version” of the melody for their song Wiggle and 1979. Giggle All Night and their 1980 song Don Diablo .

“The defendants have raised the intellectual property rights of the plaintiffs,” Brown and Linzer’s attorneys wrote in a satirical complaint. “Plaintiffs file the lawsuit so that the defendants can’t get away with their willful violation.”

The songwriters highlighted interviews with Lipa, in which they said she “has admitted she deliberately imitated previous eras” and “inspired” historical music from the “retro” sound of her 2020 album, Future Nostalgia.

The lawsuit claims that the “signature tune” from Levitating’s prequel copied a similar portion of their songs, and cited the popularity of this section of Levitating on TikTok as key to its success.

“Because video creators frequently crop out already brief audio snippets on TikTok, the signature tune often comprises 50% or more of these viral videos.”

The suit is called Lipa, her trademark Warner Music Group and rapper DaBaby, who has appeared on a remix of the song, along with other songwriting and production gigs. Brown and Lenzer claimed: “Seeking to inspire nostalgia, the defendants copied the plaintiffs’ innovations without attribution.”

last week, Lipa has been sued by the Florida band Artikal Sound Systemwho claimed that Levitating was so similar to their 2017 song “Live Your Life” that it “is highly unlikely that Levitating could be created independently”.

Lipa did not respond to any of the allegations. The Guardian has contacted representatives of the singer.
