Hulu viewers expressed their frustration over technical problems with the livestream on the streamer’s X support account as the 97th Academy Awards got underway on Sunday. While some users received an error message, others stated that Hulu was completely unavailable. (For example, when this TVLine employee clicked on Hulu’s Oscars feed, a dark screen appeared.)
Even when the problem appeared to have been somewhat fixed, there were rumors that Hulu had removed the show once more right before the announcement of the final two Best Actor and Best Picture winners.
The streamer acknowledged and apologized for the problem on Monday AM after spending the entire Sunday evening on social media answering complaints. Some Oscars viewers were afflicted by the technical and live stream issues we encountered on Hulu on Sunday night.
A Disney representative told our sister site Deadline, “We are sorry for the experience. “Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ have a complete replay of the event.” (TVLine has contacted Hulu and Disney for further information.)
Social media was inundated with complaints regarding the Hulu stream shortly after Sunday night’s Oscarcast.
I suppose I won’t be watching this year’s Oscars. One irate viewer wrote, “Thank @hulu for your useless garbage app.” “@hulu FIX YOUR SERVICE…. how are you going to advertise something and it be down???” was added as an accessory.
The X account of Hulu Support became crowded with responses such as “Sorry for any upset! Investigating this behavior is a top priority for us right now, and we anticipate having a solution in place shortly. I appreciate your patience.

ABC is broadcasting this year’s Oscars ceremony, which is hosted by Conan O’Brien. Those who wanted to watch online had to subscribe to Hulu or sign up for a live-TV streaming service that included ABC.
