Jason Statham and Miramax are reuniting for The Beekeeper 2, the follow-up to the $162.6 million worldwide success from 2024. Timo Tjahjanto, director of Nobody 2, will direct a screenplay by Kurt Wimmer.
This fall, cameras will roll.
The first film, which was directed by David Ayer, centers on a retired covert human intelligence agent who seeks retribution when his generous landlady is defrauded of millions of dollars from a charity she manages by a phishing scheme.
The goal of the studio and the filmmakers is to have Ayer return as a producer for the follow-up. The Heart of the Beast, starring Brad Pitt, is presently in production.
In an effort to cover a gap in the box office caused by the strike, Amazon/MGM Studios is currently being urged to release the sequel domestically. They handled the first one a year ago.
Horror-action director Tjahjanto has three huge Indonesian Netflix series: The Big Four, The Night Comes for Us, and The Shadow Strays. On August 15, Nobody 2, starring Sharon Stone and Connie Nielsen and featuring Bob Odenkirk’s comeback, will be released by Universal.
WME, 360 Management, and lawyer Marios Rush represent Tjahjanto. Through his business, Punch Palace Productions, Statham produces films. Through Long Shot Productions, Chris Long is the producer. Attorney Patrick Knapp represents Statham and Long.
With its co-financing of the international $66M+ blockbuster success Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, Miramax has been on fire lately. They also have the Liam Neeson comedy 4 Kids Walk Into a Bank and Roofman, starring Channing Tatum at Paramount.
Along with the Wayans Brothers, they are set to start work on the upcoming Scary Movie, which will also be distributed by Paramount. Scandalous, which is being directed by Colman Domingo and starring Sydney Sweeney and David Jonsson, is another major Miramax feature in the works.
