Jeff Dye is opening up about his role in the 2019 film “The Wedding Year” opposite co-star Sarah Hyland.
“In the time that I had to be on set, Sarah Hyland was the lead,” the comedian, 42, said on Thursday’s episode of “The George Janko Show.”
After admitting he was only in the rom-com for around “30 seconds,” Dye said that the “Modern Family” alum, 34, was “rude to everyone,” labeling her a “pretty woman who chain-smokes and is terrible.”
He claimed that Hyland had complained to director Robert Luketic about the film’s extras eating food from the craft services table.
“She was annoyed that some extras wanted some f–king free granola bars … like it was in her kitchen or something,” Dye said.
The stand-up comedian further claimed the actress “hated” him and told him directly, “You’re what is wrong with people.”
Dye thought that she disliked him because he is a man and she is “not used to masculine energy of any sort.”
Dye also claimed that the former “Love Island” anchor attempted to show cast and crew members the teaser for the 2019 live-action film “Dumbo” on her phone.
“They’re all in this hierarchy of Hollywood where it’s like, she’s No. 1 on the call sheet, [so] we have to, like, pander to her. If she’s mean to us, just let her be mean to us, and if she’s sad, pretend like it’s OK that she’s sad,” he said of the on set expectations.
Dye reported that at one point, Hyland was crying while viewing the trailer, and he responded in disbelief, “That looks gay.”
“I didn’t even mean it. I just wanted to ruin the moment,” he admitted on the podcast. “I ruined her little showpiece.”
“She thinks she’s so important, and this is, like, the whole industry,” Dye concluded as per The Post.
When asked if he was the one who irritated Hyland, the actor defended himself, claiming that he “checked in with everybody” on set and they all agreed that Hyland was “mean.”
Dye even joked that staff members bonded over their hate of the “Geek Charming” actress, which drew them closer together.
“I think, actually, people found camaraderie in hating her,” he said. “Like, she was the island.”
“Don’t care at all,” Dye said about potential backlash, insisting he was “just being honest.”
But Dye did claim the film’s director, 51, “was a dream” to work with, as was his on-screen wife, Anna Camp.
“I would work with [Luketic] anytime ever again,” he added, sharing, “Me and Anna Camp became good buddies after that. Like, she’s awesome.”
Dye previously pursued Kristin Cavallari, whom he dated in 2021-2022. In an October 2023 episode of her “Let’s Be Honest” podcast, the 38-year-old “The Hills” star shared a story about an unnamed ex-boyfriend being detained in front of her while on a trip to Los Angeles.
Dye had been detained for fleeing the scene of a traffic collision and driving while intoxicated.
