Kyle Richards was Justin Sylvester’s first employer, and the two have remained friends ever since.
When Kyle initially joined The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills (which debuted in 2010), the E! host and TV personality was actually her assistant. Justin has since co-hosted E! News, Nightly Pop, Daily Pop, and E! Live from the Red Carpet. Most recently, he co-hosted a week of Jenna & Friends on TODAY with Jenna Bush Hager.
After the week was over, Justin thought back on Kyle’s counsel.
“Kyle Richards is always my rock, and her just reminding me to be myself and reminding me that I got this was huge,” he said in a February 2025 interview with People.
Because of their lengthy history together, you may have occasionally noticed Justin appear on Kyle’s Instagram page throughout the years (and vice versa).
In a 2022 interview with TODAY, Justin revealed that Kyle played a key role in helping him feel prepared to come out to his family.
He said on the morning news show, “Working for Kyle Richards was my first job.” “She appeared on Beverly Hills’ Real Housewives. In Season 2, there was a ‘Gays and Gals’ party, and I had known her since Season 1. “I really want you to come with me, but I know you’re not out to your family,” she added as she set me down. And the gimmick is up if you do this.”
Kyle promised to always be there for her. “‘If you do decide to do this, I will be with you every step of the way,'” he remembered her saying.
Justin made the decision to come out to his mother and attend the party.
“It was the hardest call of my life, but the greatest call of my life,” he said. “I had been hiding my true dream for a long time, but that moment transformed my life forever. I was aware that I would bring humiliation to my entire family if I were ever in front of the camera.
The incident strengthened Justin’s relationship with Kyle, and if her homage to Justin on her birthday in November 2024 is to be believed, they have been “ride or die” closest friends ever since.
Justin has praised Kyle’s influence as well. He shared a cute Instagram picture of himself with his former boss in January 2024.
He put, “‘Til the wheels fall off,” as the caption.
