Matthew McConaughey is making his long-awaited return to the big screen in The Rivals of Amziah King, marking his first live-action appearance since Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen in 2019. McConaughey will co-star with Kurt Russell and Cole Sprouse in the forthcoming criminal thriller.
Regarding his much-anticipated return, McConaughey stated to Variety, “I recalled a few details.” The extent of my genuine enjoyment in performing. I recalled, McConaughey, that you excel at this. Additionally, I recalled that acting serves as a respite for me, wherein my performance becomes my sole concentration.
Upon exiting the door in the morning, my wife remarks, ‘go assert yourself.’ I have the children. We are satisfactory. That constitutes a vacation. I am not engaging in multitasking. I am not categorizing. “I am entirely dedicated to uncovering the essence of my character,” he stated.
The SXSW 2025 Film & TV Festival will host the global premiere of The Rivals of Amziah King. The film will be screened twice, with the initial screening on March 10 and the subsequent one on March 13. The official logline of the show is, “In the remote backwoods of rural Oklahoma, the charismatic and musically talented Amziah King leads a bluegrass band of misfits while managing the town’s foremost honey production.”
Upon the unexpected homecoming of Amziah’s estranged foster daughter, Amziah seizes the opportunity to rekindle their relationship and establish a family enterprise. However, the honey industry is merciless, and Amziah’s competitors jeopardize all that he has established.
McConaughey will also feature in the R-rated drama The Lost Bus, a survival thriller adapted from the book Paradise: One Town’s Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire by Lizzie Johnson. Jamie Lee Curtis has become a producer for the project. Filming for The Lost Bus took place in April 2024; however, no anticipated release date has been disclosed.
