Putin has stopped serving as honorary president of the International Judo Federation

On Sunday, the International Judo Federation announced the suspension of Russian President Vladimir Putin from his position as honorary president of the International Judo Federation, due to his invasion of Ukraine.

The Russian invasion by land, air and sea on Thursday followed Putin’s declaration of war.

The 69-year-old judo black belt is a highly disciplined practitioner and co-author of the book Judo: History, Theory and Practice.

“In light of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, the International Judo Federation has announced the suspension of the status of Mr. Vladimir Putin as Honorary President and Ambassador of the International Judo Federation,” the International Judo Federation said in a statement.

The International Golf Federation said on Friday it had canceled an event in Russia from May 20-22.

“The International Judo Federation announces with regret the cancellation of the 2022 Grand Slam tournament in Kazan, Russia,” said Marius Viser, president of the International Judo Federation.
