‘The Welcome Protocol,’ the ninth episode of Hulu’s sitcom ‘How I Met Your Father‘ season 2, follows Sophie as she accompanies Valentina to a party thrown by the latter’s client and Broadway star Daphne.
Sid, Ellen, and Charlie meet Jesse’s new date, Dana. The group is taken aback by her interactions with the trio. Sophie meets a man at the party unexpectedly and becomes connected to him.
Jesse makes a significant decision in his life with Dana and surprises his adoptive sister with a shocking revelation. The intriguing episode concludes with developments that affect Sophie and Jesse’s lives.

‘The Welcome Protocol’ begins with Valentina selecting her companion for her client Daphne’s party. Sophie wins a competition and goes to the party with her best friend.
Jesse informs Sid, Ellen, and Charlie that he intends to spend time with his new girlfriend Dana at Pemberton’s. Jesse invokes the “welcome protocol,” which designates his friends as the former’s “hype man,” his date’s “bathroom bestie,” the “giggler” to laugh at her jokes, and the “human fodder” to entertain her. Dana arrives at the bar, but Sid, Ellen, and Charlie are already there.
Sophie meets Robert, the chef in charge of the food section at the event, at the party. Meanwhile, Valentina notices another partygoer dressed exactly like Daphne.
She is afraid that her client will see the same dress and become enraged, possibly ruining her career. To save her best friend, Sophie spills sauce on the visitor and forces him to wear her coat in order to hide the person from Daphne. Valentina is relieved, only to notice another guest wearing the same gown.
Sophie tries spilling sauce on her as well, but the woman tells the two friends that she doesn’t mind the stain on her dress. When the first guest notices the woman, he removes his coat, only for Daphne to notice both of them.
Daphne confronts Valentina about the dress, threatening to ruin her career. Valentina is terrified when she sees Daphne in tears and rushes over to comfort her. Daphne tells Valentina about her bad reputation, and she invites two guests in the same dress to the stage with her to demonstrate her humanity.

How I Met Your Father Season 2 Episode 9 Ending: Do Sophie and Robert Get Together?
When Valentina notices a second guest dressed similarly to Daphne, she requests that Sophie give her dress to the guest. Sophie undresses in the kitchen’s storeroom and hands her dress to Valentina, only for Robert to open the door and see her in her underwear. He hands her a chef’s coat, which she puts on.
Robert impresses Sophie by making her favourite dips. After spending time together that is endearing, Robert asks her out, only for her to kiss him, indicating that she is willing to share intimacy with him.
Sophie gives Robert a chance after dating several men her age, which pleases Robert, who had been afraid that their age difference would prevent her from dating him.
As a result, Sophie and Robert meet. Sophie and her commitment issues are handled patiently by the chef. He is a man who knows how to make a woman happy, which could help him strengthen his relationship with Sophie.
Robert is also very attentive, which should make him an appealing partner for Sophie. Despite the fact that Sophie’s previous relationships did not grow or end well, Robert’s confidence and maturity may be just what Sophie needs to resolve her commitment issues. Having said that, Robert is most likely not “The One,” or the father of her son.
Sophie did not meet Robert on the day of Sid (Suraj Sharma) and Hannah’s engagement, which is the day she met her son’s father. Furthermore, Robert could be her mother Lori’s ex-partner.
Sophie calls Lori in a flashback scene in the first episode and also in episode 8 of season 2 to tell her that she believes she is dating her father. Given Robert’s age, it’s not surprising that he was Lori’s partner. If this is the case, Sophie and Robert’s relationship is unlikely to last long.

Why Doesn’t Jesse Get Together with Dana?
Sid, Ellen, and Charlie treat Dana well for the sake of “welcome protocol” after she arrives at Pemberton’s, only to fall in love with her. The trio even fantasises about Jesse marrying Dana, only for him to tell them that he no longer wants to date her.
Jesse creates an emergency situation, only for Dana to discover the truth. She storms out of the bar, severing ties with her new partner. Jesse refuses to date Dana because he hasn’t moved on from Sophie.
He dates Dana solely to divert his attention away from his feelings for his ex-girlfriend. The music teacher eventually admits the truth and decides to end his relationship with Dana.
Jesse has a deep affection for Sophie. When Sophie proposes that they break up, he accepts and goes out with Meredith to distract himself from his feelings for Sophie.
He’s doing the same thing he did with Dana: rushing things. Jesse accepts reality this time before forming a strong attachment to Dana, possibly to avoid hurting the latter. Jesse must have realised that putting any effort into forming a bond with his new date is pointless if his mind cannot move on from Sophie, resulting in their breakup.
He must be considering telling Sophie about his feelings for her despite being unaware of her relationship with Robert.
