In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, pop singer Harry Styles opens up about his personal life, addressing claims of queerbaiting, his sexuality, and his romantic relationship with Olivia Wilde.

Styles’ life has changed dramatically since his “X-Factor” days pushed him to international success with the formation of One Direction, followed by his solo career launch in 2017.

Styles, who is currently on tour in support of his third solo album, “Harry’s House,” opened up about the intense scrutiny of his private life in a cover story interview with Rolling Stone published Monday, saying, “I’ve never talked about my life away from work publicly and found that it’s benefited me positively.”

“There will always be a version of a narrative, and I just decided I wasn’t going to spend the time attempting to rectify or deflect it in some manner,” he explained.

Styles, famed for his gender-fluid attire copying heroes David Bowie and Mick Jagger before him, has faced scathing criticism for queerbaiting – the practice of profiting from pretending to be queer without explicitly claiming the community.

Styles dismissed comments about his sexual orientation without prompting.

“Sometimes people say, ‘You’ve only openly been with women,’ and I don’t believe I’ve ever publicly been with anyone. “It doesn’t imply you’re choosing to have a public connection or anything if someone takes a picture of you with someone,” he explained.

He previously described the need to declare one’s sexuality as “outdated” in an interview with Better Homes & Gardens in April.

“It doesn’t matter, and it’s about not having to label everything, about not having to clarify what boxes you’re checking,” he explained to the magazine.

Styles is dating Wilde, the director of his upcoming picture “Don’t Worry Darling,” which will be released in September. She’s been seen dancing along to his music at several of his sold-out gigs, and the two have been photographed hand in hand by paparazzi.

The 28-year-old musician stated that the internet can be a toxic place where people in his immediate circle are attacked, referring to Twitter as “an s—-storm of people trying to be nasty to people.”

“Obviously, that doesn’t make me feel good,” he admitted to Rolling Stone.

“It’s definitely a tough sensation to think that being close to me means you’re at the price of a Twitter corner or whatever,” he explained. “All I wanted to do was sing. I didn’t want to get involved if it meant hurting individuals like that.”

In the interview, Wilde, 38, also addressed the internet abuse, stating, “What I don’t get about the cruelty you’re referring to is that that type of toxic negativity is the antithesis of Harry and everything he puts out there.”

“I don’t think the angry energy defines his fan base at all. “The vast majority of them are genuine proponents of kindness,” she went on.

Styles will also appear in the film “My Policeman,” in which he plays a police officer in 1950s Britain who hides his sexuality. The film will be released in November.

“It’s obviously very inconceivable now to believe, ‘Oh, you couldn’t be gay,'” says the author. “That was illegal,” Styles stated of the part.

“I think everyone, including myself, has their own journey of discovering their sexuality and being more comfortable with it,” he went on.

“It’s not like it’s a gay story about these gay dudes.” To me, it’s about love and wasting time,” he continued.
