Friends is adored by all, even Sandra Bullock, it seems.
On Tuesday, July 16, Lisa Kudrow, sixty, disclosed on Jimmy Kimmel Live that she is frequently referred to as Phoebe in real life, even by other high-profile celebrities.
The actress, who portrayed Phoebe Buffay on the NBC comedy for ten seasons between 1994 and 2004, was questioned by guest host Anthony Anderson, “How often do people call you Phoebe?”
“Oh my God!” After responding, Kudrow began to tell about an incident she had at a party with Bullock, 59.
“I adore this so much. Kudrow clarified, “I was talking to Sandra Bullock at a party, a big party. “Well, I guess you’ll just have to talk to yourself, Phoebe,” she said while we were conversing.
She gave me the name Phoebe. Kudrow chuckled as he spoke.
But, Kudrow said, Bullock was able to fix herself. She recognized herself. “What did I just do?” she exclaimed, referring to the Oscar winner.
Kudrow was thinking back on her time on Friends as the venerable comedy commemorates its 30th birthday and 20 years after its 2024 finale. The Emmy winner told a heartwarming tale about how her son Julian responded to her sobbing when the show ended. (Kudrow and her husband Michael Stern are parents to 26-year-old Julian.)
“It seems like I was crying in the kitchen,” Kudrow recalled during the first week following the 2004 cancellation of Friends. “When my five-year-old son asked me why I was crying, my husband answered, ‘She’s sad because Friends is over.'” “But she can see her friends… she can just call them,” he continued.
The actress went on, “He never knew what the show was called.” “He simply was aware that I was a showrunner.”
After a long break from the sitcom, Kudrow—who costarred on Friends with the late Matthew Perry, Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, Courteney Cox, and Matt LeBlanc—shared that she has begun to review past episodes.
“I used to not watch it, but I do now. It eluded me to watch. I was unable to watch myself at all. The shame of someone strolling into the room and seeing me watch Friends, even if I wanted to,” she joked.
