Fans of Cobra Kai are being cautioned by Jacob Bertrand that the show may be ending, but the last season promises to be an exciting adventure.
In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, Bertrand, 24, said of season 6 of the popular Netflix series, “There’s a ton of relationship drama.” I will say this: you would assume that [the characters] would pick up communication skills, but no. Not really. Not quite yet.
Although many of the show’s romances appear to have a difficult road ahead of them, Bertrand, who has played the bad boy-turned-good Hawk since Cobra Kai’s 2016 launch, pointed out that this season’s tensions will stem more from exceptional circumstances than from immaturity.
He clarified, “I think that over all the seasons, a lot of the miscommunications were caused by their youth and lack of experience. “I would say that things happen in life, especially this season. that there isn’t a truly ideal method to respond to situations.
Bertrand cites Tory Nichols from Peyton List as an illustration. Part 1 of season 6, which debuted on Thursday, July 18, saw Tori grieving over her mother’s passing and departing Miyagi-Do to reunite with Daniel La Russo (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) as their adversaries,
John Kreese (Martin Kove), in his redesigned Cobra Kai. When Hawk and the rest of the team travel outside to South Korea for the Sekai Taikai, they are taken aback by the news.
The betrayal will probably not sit well with Hawk, but Bertrand expressed understanding for Tory’s choice.
He told to Us, “I think Tory’s actions are really justified.” “You know, she’s just trying to survive, looking out for herself?” Bertrand continued, saying that although the decision will “cause a lot of animosity” inside the group, it is a “warranted” one motivated by loss and pain.
Where else will you turn when her life is falling apart right in front of her eyes? He mentioned Tory and Kreese’s past friendship and stated, “To someone who really has kind of supported you throughout everything.”
But Tori’s revelation is only the start. “Season 6 is simply larger.” Everything is operating at full capacity. There’s more drama, he remarked. However, it’s also firmly grounded. This season, everyone’s responses seem quite sincere.
This season, Hawk will undoubtedly be coping with his own problems. Over the years, the character has undergone significant transformation, going from quiet and reserved Eli to rebellious Hawk without a cause.
Bertrand now claims that the character is seeking balance, even if it means letting go of his boyhood ambitions to enroll in MIT with his best buddy, Demetri (Gianni Decenzo).
“I believe that Hawk has been living in these situations for the last two years in a totally different way,” Bertrand said. MIT seems to have been an old Eli ambition, too. And Hawk is currently attempting to pinpoint his specific dreams. And he attends this fraternity party, and the females really like him.
I believe that briefly causes him to ask himself, “Wait, what do I want to do?” Perhaps I should enroll in a party school and experience that lifestyle. However, in my opinion, that school of thought is more Red Hawk than Miyagi Do-centered Hawk.
Although Hawk’s future is now uncertain, Bertrand stated that he will decide by the season conclusion; nevertheless, don’t anticipate hearing from him much sooner. The themes of the next ten episodes will center on Hawk seeking advice from those closest to him.
I believe that Hawk tends to travel to places where he feels most strong, and his pals are there to tell him that it’s okay to feel powerful even when you’re not in the best situation or to be in a cherry-picked position. You may hang out with us and be good and safe with us,” he continued. Thus, I believe that this season will provide us a glimpse of that journey.
All of Hawk’s growth on screen has been reflected in Bertrand’s life as well. After appearing in 1986’s Karate Kid, Zabka,58, and Macchio,62, reprised their roles on Cobra Kai, and the 24-year-old claims he’s learned a lot from them. (Macchio made a second appearance in two more sequels.)
I spent a lot of time hanging out with Billy throughout the early seasons, and we got along great. Furthermore, he [is] undoubtedly someone who enjoys mentoring others and imparting knowledge,” he exclaimed.
However, I think Ralph is the most sensei-like of [all of them]. Simply said, getting to know them all and build relationships has been enjoyable.
In addition, Bertrand mentioned that he became close with Yuji Okumoto, who returned to the role of Chozen in seasons five and six, even traveling to Seattle to visit Kona Kitchen, his restaurant.
Bertrand, on the other hand, received assistance from Zabka and Macchio on set, who taught him how to be “more intentional” with his “work ethic” from the first day of rehearsal to the filming of every scene.
It’s only enjoyable. He went on, “They’re just great guys,” speaking about his instructors and costars. “They’re really the most grounded, mature male role models I could ask for.”
Season 6 of Cobra Kai Part 1 is currently streaming on Netflix. Part 3 will be released at some point in 2025, while Part 2 will be accessible on November 15.
