Zak Williams, the late Robin Williams’ son, celebrated what would have been his father’s 73rd birthday today.
“Dad, on what would be your 73rd birthday, I remember you for all the hope and joy you brought to the world,” Zak, 41, wrote in a heartfelt post shared on X on Sunday, July 21. In August 2014, Robin passed away at the age of 63.
“Not a week goes by without someone sharing with me how you helped them through a dark time or a rough patch,” Zak wrote in his message. I feel very honored to be your son. I will always love you.
A vintage black and white image of Robin sitting on the ground next to a couch and grinning at the photographer accompanied the post.
In addition to being the CEO and co-founder of the dietary supplement company Prepare Your Mind (PYM), Zak is an advocate for mental health.
Throughout his career, Robin, who starred in Good Will Hunting, struggled with substance abuse and deep melancholy. The celebrity was found to have Parkinson’s disease just before he passed away; early signs appeared in 2013.
As originally revealed by Us Weekly, Zak welcomed his first child, 5-year-old McLaurin Clement Williams, with his then-fiance Olivia June in June 2019, just five years after his father’s passing.
June, who is currently wed to Zak, gave birth to their second child, a 3-year-old girl named Zola June Williams, in June 2021.
The naming of their oldest child served as an homage to Robin from the couple. The late actor, whose middle name was McLaurin, shared a first name with McLaurin.
Robin’s first wife, Valerie Velardi, has an elder son named Zak. After ten years of marriage, the couple filed for divorce in 1988.
Subsequently, the actor from Dead Poets Society and his second wife Marsha Garces welcomed a son, Cody, and a daughter, Zelda. Almost nine years after getting married, Robin and Garces called it quits in 2008. 2011 saw Robin marry Susan Schneider Williams, his third wife.
In August 2016, Zelda, 34, opened up about how she was with the loss of her father. It’s strange because I thought for a long time that no one would let me to do anything. “Oh sh*t, are you okay?” was the reaction, and even if you were, they would ask, “But what’s wrong?” Zelda stated at the time about Chelsea.
I wrote 12 scripts as a result of being kind of left on my own for a period, which produced a lot of material. But after a while, I also started to wonder, “Is there something wrong with me?” and I stopped seeing much daylight. However, I’m doing that much more now!
